Daily Routine

A typical school day at Fort Couch is designed to take advantage of the traits which are characteristic of a middle school student. Students can focus on the academic challenge in an atmosphere supportive of their developmental needs. The day begins and ends with an activity period. During that time, students can socialize and participate in extracurricular enrichment activities.

Four hours each day are assigned to the Academic Team to use as they see fit to fulfill the objectives of the program. This appears on the schedule as approximately one-hour in each core-discipline with no more than two consecutive core-academic subjects. In addition, classes in Expressive Arts, World Language, and Physical Education, along with Advisor and Guidance Class are offered.

The afternoon mirrors the morning with two more core-academic subjects mixed with other course offerings.

The day ends with a half-hour Student Activity period. Students may take advantage of the activities offered by their team in addition to band, chorus and orchestra. Students requiring extra time for expressive art class project can take advantage of open times when available before school and during the activity periods.

Our day is orderly, safe and academically very successful. Students have been given time to be adolescents and adversarial positions that would otherwise affect our programming are avoided. We ring no bells; the teachers and students work cooperatively to keep our day moving at a positive pace.
